Amanda Cooper is a freelance Art Director/Creative Director and Photographer living, working between Los Angeles and San Francisco pursuing professional passions within the commercial and lifestyle fashion industries. She draws creative inspiration from the sea and natural rural landscapes, which she believes to infuse elements of motion, color and contrast, and emotion in work. Amanda possesses a unique eye for capturing unexpected and in-between moments; Her fluid and organic visual style is attributed to a lifelong involvement with physical movement—as a former competitive semi-pro snowboarder and lifelong avid surfer, mediocre skateboarder, spiritually-driven yogi and dedicated runner.

Amanda put herself through an MFA degree in Art Direction while concurrently working full-time in the field and also possesses a BA in Graphic Design (with Art History, Photography minors.) She has been employed as an award-winning commercial Art Director (now Associate Creative Director) over the last decade and has spent three years teaching art direction at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Amanda has previously been employed within the Advertising, Action Sports, Fashion and Non-profit industries, servicing creative accounts for clients ranging from the California Coastal Commission organization to luxe swimwear designers to automotive brands like BMW, Toyota.

She passionately carried around an old Pentax K1000 from adolescence, shooting everything in sight while studying film photography. Amanda purchased her first DSLR camera nearly four years ago and has been running full speed, creative directing, art directing and shooting primarily lifestyle & fitness fashion, active and portrait photography ever since. Concurrently she has continued to provide professional creative art direction and branding consultation services. Amanda also launched 'The SunsetSessions,' both an Art/Creative Direction service as well as authentic vintage and California-made fashion collection—to combine professional passions with her love for vintage fashion, photography and boardriding culture. (An interest which is likely linked to her 6th-generation California roots.) She is an advocate of green fashion and is ardent about supporting emerging entrepreneurs. Whenever possible, the images represented on this site feature wardrobes consisting of vintage, eco-fashion or designs from the collections of up-and-coming independent fashion designers.

THANK YOU to all the amazing models, stylists and hair & make up artists with whom I've had the absolute pleasure to work and create. Many thanks as well as to the inspirational photographers with whom I've had the privilege to watch, learn and collaboratively work. — Amanda
